If purchasing at Walmart or any chain store, check the seal and make sure it is sealed correctly. I read on another forum about people buying some that had been returned and the seal was broken and they didn't contain DEF any longer. Honesty seems to be a thing of the past!
Honesty may not be the same but internet stories will continue forever. People don't sit around campfires telling stories much anymore so internet stories have taken the place of campfire stories. And since a person read it on the internet the stories have to be true. Just don't ask for documented truth. People assume 'proof' is just another internet link.
You might want to talk to a longtime Walmart employee about that sort of thing, before dismissing a good suggestion.
I have. A long time friend is the store manager at one of the local Walmarts. He said he's been asked that story before. No one in Walmart corp or other store managers have ever been able to confirm any incidents of it happening.
Walmart, campfire stories, abound. Want some more? Like all the guns Walmart sells are seconds and rejects made by the manufacturers and sold at a discount to Walmart. The ammo that Walmart sells is all seconds. The clothes sold at Walmart are rejects made for other companies that refuse delivery because they were faulty. All the bread sold at Walmart groceries are day old products removed from other grocery stores.
If you have proof, provide valid documentation. An internet story repeated blindly is far from documentation. It's nothing more than a campfire tale. But internet tales are more exciting than the truth so the tales get repeated and, unfortunately, believed. What is proof is that people are gullible to believe anything just because someone else told them a story.
