- hersheyExplorerI never ever thought about anyone stealing my electrical cord from the tow before. But, if we stop for lunch or leave the RV/toad combination for any length of time, I always do a walk around and particularly check the tow bar connections and safety chain etc before leaving.
- RoyBExplorer III too always check things before getting on the road doing my initial walk-around inspection checking safety lights etc. I got into the habit of everytime we start towing I will ALWAYS use the BRAKE CONTROLLER SLIDER LEVER verses BRAKE PEDAL to stop my truck and trailer at the first full stop I come to...
Roy Ken - Homer1ExplorerIf it makes you feel better to unhook the power cord, do it. I would suggest just pulling from tow vehicle and zip tying to RV pulling apparatus. Do it in such a way that you will not forget to re-hook in the morning. I have heard of fools detaching tow bars and 5th wheel pins over the 50 years I have Rv'd. You will never fix stupid. So far I have never heard of any one having a serious problem with it. Now not being able to unhook in the event of fire due to keyed locks is a whole different problem. I have personally seen those charred remains.

Do you make sure no one is still asleep in the Fusion? Chris - Colo_NativeExplorerI disconnect at night when in Walmarts. Just me but I always recheck the next morning
- CA_TravelerExplorer IIIAt a truck fuel station a trucker told we kids were messing around the tow bar while we were inside. They didn't change anything but now I always check before driving off.
- tomman58ExplorerReap what you sow. At Wallmart you only make yourself a target.
- RoyBExplorer III am assuming you are referring to the 7-way Trailer Cable connected to the truck for safety lights etc...
There isn't anyway for me to stow/hide this cable on my trailer... I leave mine connected...
My SHORE POWER CABLE is a pull out cable so it is left inside the closed door for it. No where to plug it in at a Walmart Parking lot...
I do however hook up my trailer 30A SHORE POWER CABLE to my 2KW Honda Generator that is sitting secured and covered in my truck tailgate corner and brew up fresh ground and brew bean coffee in the morning.
We always try to exercise the "Out of sight - out of mind" security concept no matter where we are parked.
Roy Ken - 3oaksExplorerDon't sweat the small stuff? Right. :R
However, sometimes the small stuff leads to a very unhappy experience. Like drug addicts stealing weight distribution bars and selling them for scrap metal to get their next fix or vandals pulling hitch pins at rest areas along the interstates. Has never happened to me, but I don't throw caution to the wind either. ;) - GeocritterExplorerLast spring I spent the night at a California rest area. In the morning I did my walk-around and it appeared someone had let much of the air out of both the rear tires on my toad (it was on a tow dolly). Both tires were down to slightly less than 10 lbs pressure, had I not checked no telling how far down the road I would've gotten before a tire failed completely. No big deal, I carry a cylinder of compressed nitrogen and was able to quickly air up my tires and was on my way. Things happen but that's not going to make me paranoid. With over 7 billion people on the planet there's always going to be some sick wack-a-doodle's around, one just has to be aware of their surroundings.
