Some do, Some do not. Some states discourage it. Some do not. Around where I am (Oconee County South Carolina) Many but not all do.
And some states if you use a debit cart it's same as cash but a credit card gets the higher price. (Confused yet.. I am)
Why?
The card companies usually are billed through a clearing house this house charges a percentage as does the card issuer. and if it's a credit card you also get charged.. So it's a win-win-win for the Money Bags and not so much for you.
ON the other hand if you stick your card in the slot it's less employee time for the station and that benefits the employer (the station) since he can get by with fewer clerks so .....
Normally I prefer to deal with humans. Gas stations are the exception I don't mind self serve gas.
