Do all Saturn models flat tow?

We need a new toad. Is there a model Saturn (automatic) that will not tow four wheels down? Are Saturns the only cars that will tow flat with automatic transmissions?

It's either a Mini Cooper (stick) or another Saturn but I seem to remember hearing one model Saturn wouldn't tow four wheels down.

Thanks, Tom in San Diego

  • Regarding your statement "can all Saturns be flat towed"

    No.

A few years ago a new model Saturn was introduced from Europe. Initially it was declared to be flat towable and then Saturn sent a special bulletin to dealers advising them it was not.

    P.S. It was called ASTRA
  • Check the lists rigorously. Not all manual vehicles can be towed 4 wheels down. Example: 2004 and earlier Mustang manuals can be towed, 2005 and later can't. When I was picking one last year, REMCO's site was great, not so with their upgraded website. We settled for a PT Cruiser with manual because it was cheap, got good MPG's since its a daily driver, and had a BlueOx tow bar that fit easy. Wish I'd got a Civic.

    Good luck.
  • my 2005 VUE with the Honda motor/tranny can be towed 4 down. earlier ones with the old style variable automatic transmission, sort of like a changeable pully lawnmower, couldn't be. that 2005 is head and shoulders above a mini, IMHO.

  • We replaced our Saturn with a Chevy HHR. They also tow four down with an automatic.
  • Not sure how old you are looking for.
In 2007 the Aura, Ion, Outlook and Vue were towable 4 down.
2008 and newer the Ion was dropped from list.
We tow a 2007 Malibu Maxx 4 down. Just set up a 2012 Chevy Captiva (re-badged Saturn Vue) for towing 4 down.
If you are a FMCA member you call go to their site and download towing guides from 1999 to 2013.
