We have stayed in states that have bad storms. We have been rousted out of sleep many times in Alabama by the park ranger or a host suggesting that we go to the restroom, take a chair and radio and wait it out. We've done so many times. We very much appreciated it. If you're sleeping, how would you know if there are storm alerts? We've seen a lot of damage to RVs by tree limbs falling and awnings blown off. Also, the manager of the host probably asked him to do this. Don't blame the host!
I ALWAYS have a NOAA radio since I winter in Texas where there are severe storms including tornadoes every now and then. That is one of the first things I do when I get to a new location is determine the county that I am in and see if I can receive the local NOAA station in the area. I have had campground owners notify of impending storms and where to shelter. Folks a NOAA radio can be had for just a few dollars and if you camp in areas prone to storms it is a very wise investment.
