- LamanExplorerMr. Bishop not to drag this out but I was actually agreeing with you.:) I thought it was funny that several people kept referring to the pin as a cotter pin when it obviously was not. I have used those clips with farming equipment for years.
- portscannerExplorerThe guy at the RV dealership told me that was a quick and easy way to hook it up!

I originally asked, does anyone (without looking it up) know what a cotter key was originally used for?
I didn't, but couldn't resist looking it up. Good thinking by old Mr. Cotter.
The newer Mr Kotter, of TV fame, probably wouldn't have thought of that. - pawpaw47ExplorerI hope that picture was just a joke! Is anyone really that dumb?
- LatnerNomadIf the pic is for real, I'm guessing this is a farmer pulling a trailer around his land where he's not concerned if the trailer comes loose, he just wants ease of use if he's doing alot of connecting/disconnecting.

Then why connect the "safety" chains in the first place? - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIOK OK lighten up.........
I haven't hooked up a bumper pull trailer in a long time and I can't bend over nor can I get down on my knees either.
When I hooked-up the borrowed trailer I knew I needed to connect 'safety chains' so I felt around until I found a 'hole' and installed the clevis shackle as best as I could sight unseen. Not much feeling in fingers either now a days.
Oh well.........only going to landfill to dump the busted up concrete. Now you know why I can't bend over, get down on my knees or feel anything - TucsonJimExplorer IIOld-Biscuit. That explains everything. You can't "feel anything". I always thought you were "insensitive". LOL

Maybe just for the fact of not having them dragging?
