I ALWAYS check mine

I mounted a convex mirror on my awning pole (used to lock/unlock awning lock). I can just put that up first to SEE if it needs cleaning. Usually it does not. When it does I use a folding stepladder and a wash broom with extendable handle.
Note I use 303 Protectorant to keep my seals flexible, works great. I just wipe them with it in spring.
