We're DINKs in our mid-30s. We don't have a line item in our budget for vacations, but when setting our weekly spending and monthly savings budgets, we keep in mind vacations etc. But, we have decent disposable income so a camping vacation doesn't make a huge dent in anything. Highest expense is usually the gas to get there and back as we either boondock or stay in state parks that aren't too expensive. If we go over budget on a trip, we just spend less after we get home.
Also, the things we do in the winter, like go to hockey games, we're not doing in the summer, so the money we spend on hockey, goes towards camping. Also, if we stay home, we tend to do stuff like go out to eat, go to breweries, go shopping, so we aren't doing that while camping.
