For decades I have put $1000 a month into a savings account. It is for vacations, home repairs, "I really want that doohickey" type of stuff. I have also put $500 a month into a separate savings account as a "car note." Since I drive a car till the wheels fall off, when I need a new car I can pay cash. I haven't had a car note in 20 years. The RV I bought new in 2007 and the RV I bought new last year were both paid for out of the vacation account.
