We don't "budget" for vacation, and we definatley don't track what we spend on vacation. What we have done, is like another person said, we live below out means. Our mortgage is about half what the bank offered to lend us, and we we drive cars forever. We bought my wife a new car last year, her previous car she bought in 2003. My truck I bought new in 2002 and now has 215k miles on it. With both cars, after they were paid off, we continued to make car payments to ourselves.
By living throughout the years like this, when we go on vacation, we do pretty much what we want, and don't worry about costs. Now I don't spend $600 a day on a charter fishing every trip, but I do on occasion. We both work hard, and enjoy our trips.
We do have to "budget" our vacation days. I rarely take a day off that we are not camping, but I am fortunate that I've got a boss that is flexible, and will let me work extra during the week, and I can bail early on a Friday to keep from using up vacation time. Next year I from 3 weeks to 4 weeks of vacation, and I'm really looking forward to that.
