When we were young, we took a few vacations on credit card. It sure sucks paying them off after you get home! Kinda ruins the memories as well. I decided never again! So we now plan bigger trips well in advance, and make sure they're payed for before we leave. We pay for campground reservations months in advance, figure out fuel cost and make sure the money's in the bank before we leave. We do use the visa for fuel for the convenience, and security, but it's paid in full when we get home. Those along with any entrance fees are the expenses we plan for on RV trips. Food will be a little higher than at home because we tend to spoil ourselves while camping (forget the hotdogs honey, we're buying rib eyes for the grill)! Lunch is at a restaurant if we're out sightseeing etc, but we cook at the TT most meals.
Now I will have to add this; I am retiring in 6 days. That's right 6 DAYS!! Feb 28th is my last day! And even though DW is going to work for a couple more years, we will have to watch expenses much closer. I have made good money, and so was able to pretty much vacation when, and where we wanted time permitting. I am, however retiring early (I'm 58), and as such will be on a little tighter budget than if I would have stayed another few years. Our choice, and we think it is worth it. So now, more time, less money. Hence, the need to budget more wisely, and that's OK.
