I grew up with a pop up. DW grew up with a travel trailer.
When we first decided to get an RV, she suggested a pop up. I vetoed that idea. I then suggested a travel trailer, she vetoed that idea. We then started looking at 5ers, but needed to also buy a truck to pull it. That would have cost more than a MH, so we decided a Class C was what we wanted. Six years later, and we still think we made the right choice.
As far as size, we got one small enough to get into most state/federal parks/forests, but still big enough that we don't feel crowded if it is rainy for days. We are very happy with what we bought.
We are one of the few who actually bought right the first time.
