Our first RV was a 1985 Class C with a 460 Ford with a carburetor and enough smog gear to run a small city. What a POS - it almost put us off RVing altogether. 6 mpg at sea-level and about 4.5 in the mountains and an awful internal configuration (corner regular double bed, pedestal tables, no slides). We managed to get rid of it and gave up RVing for 4 years.
We now have a Class A with two slides and a "shuffle-round" domestic queen-size bed. It's an F53 with a V10 and gets close to 8 mpg wherever we are. We're not sure we'll be able to keep up the lifestyle much longer due to financial considerations, but we've enjoyed the three seasons we've had. Maybe there'll be a fourth.
