If you want your kids to keep camping with you, let them bring a friend. Our daughters thought that was the best fun ever--they still got to camp, which they love, and they had someone to hang out with besides the parental units.
Yep I agree, but somewhere around 16-17 they are done, friends or not.
My advice to you young parents, worry less about the cost of your vacations, and more about having fun when the children are small
