Brianosaur,
I am not sure where to start here.
If you make sure that DD does not enjoy the camping time, I can assure you it will end sooner rather than later. Later is better. However, I personally believe that you should do your best to introduce here to the world outside of the megopolis of the east coast. This would be the part of the country that you and DW packed into. (Up state is beautiful, too bad it is NY.)
Having been a parent (it no longer counts when they have kids) I can tell you that she will remember both the times that she enjoyed and those that you really tried to make enjoyable. To this end, you can do a mix of "KOA" places and real camping.
Currently, DW and I do enjoy both. Most campgrounds are rallies, but we do a lot of real boondocking were out antique (really just classic, it is only 45) motorhome will take us safely.
We still have the gear in the basement. We did have GS*3 camping in our back yard some time back. They want to do it again. We have also used the coach to take (one at a time) to attractions that are out of 1-day drive range. There is a lot that you can do and keep her involved.
