My wife Gail and I were the original odd couple. When we married everyone and I mean EVERYONE we knew figured we’d be divorced within 6 months. I liked to camp (in a tent) my wife Gail didn’t. She tried and didn’t complain but it just wasn’t her thing. When our two kids were growing up I’d take them on weekend and weeklong tent camping trips and Gail would have a week all to herself (spa time!). After the kids grew up we began traveling and also ocean cruising together. I have a wealth of odd information about odd subjects stored away in my noggin so when we’d travel I’d act as travel guide and we’d have such fun. We talked about getting a large RV and traveling in it together but cancer canceled those plans. About a year and a half after Gail died I decided to get an RV and do the traveling we’d planned, I also really needed a major distraction. However, I’ve found one unfortunate thing with my solo travels, when I see something particularly awesome I’ll momentarily forget and look over to point it out to Gail only to have my smile greeted by an empty seat.
One of the beautiful things about our relationship was that we didn’t have to be together 24/7 to still be in love.
