IMHO the toad is not just a convenience to use to go shopping after parked in a CG, I consider it a safety net for me.
Nothing sweeter than breaking down with the RV and calling a tow truck, unhook the toad, load the dogs in it and tossing the keys to the tow truck driver and saying 'call me when it's fixed'!
As opposed to having a melt down on the side of the road regarding what do I do with the dogs, how do I get to a motel, how do I get to the repair shop etc etc :W
I pulled into a rest area outside Colby KA and found I'd collapsed a bearing in my tow dolly. I backed my toad off the dolly, pulled the hub apart and drove into Colby for parts (after I called first on my cell phone). While in Colby I enjoyed a hamburger, fries and a cold beer for lunch. Then I drove back to the rest area, did the repairs, drove my toad back up onto the dolly and I was back on the road again, all fed, rested, and the dolly as good as new.
