Does anyone drain the HOT water heater . . . .

It's a heater for the hot water system, just as an engine block heater is a heater for the engine block or an aquarium heater is a heater for an aquarium.

I find it interesting that there is so much objection to the term "hot water heater" but seemingly none to "hot air furnace."
