It's funny that no one has mentioned the REAL reason electric cars are becoming more popular: they are fun to drive! The instant torque of an electric motor and the lack of a herky-jerky auto transmission make for an addictive driving experience and that's before you factor in the total silence from the drivetrain..... Being able to use the power and still pay only a fraction of the fuel costs of an ICE vehicle while "refueling" at home overnight is just a bonus.....
Bingo. Really a big reason for us to switch to all electric vehicles. Maintenance is another though. We fill up our washer fluid twice a year. So far thats it although my one car will need a new Hepa filter for the inside ventilation this year. 12 bucks on amazon.
Re the power bill. When we bought our town house we changed all the bulbs to LED's and put in a more user friendly thermostat that we can control from our smart phone. Our power bill every month is a tiny but lower than the previous owners even though our "fuel" also comes from the grid. It changes year to year but 300 dollars per year pretty much covers our electricity "fuel" needs for the vehicles. We don't drive a ton of miles though. This year was a little higher than normal at about 14000 KM.
