Does "free WiFi" ever work?

Just visited two different KOAs, two days, in a row, both offered "free" WiFi... I hate to say it like a complaint because it's not exactly something I'm going to loose sleep about... I'm just wondering what others experiences are/have been, not naming parks specifically, just generally, does it work for you generally, or are you generally better off just sticking to your own connections like a Hotspot (as I'm doing now.). Sorry, not wanting to start a rant fest, just taking a gauge of others experiences..
  • Where here in stone creek r v park in Texas. There are 5 different lines . I'm auto connected and using it now.
  • I rarely have good luck with free wifi. Usually too slow even to read email.
I think too many try to use like at home watching movies.
Best to ask the office where the antenna is and sit close by.

50/59 is about my experience, too. Lots of times it works well only in the office or main building areas.

FWIW I usually have good luck in McD's or coffee shops.

  • We just returned from a week-end (2 nights) at the Clarksville, Indiana KOA (across the Ohio River from Louisville, KY. We had good WIFI service.

Actually, we've stayed at several Good Sam campgrounds this year also and had good WIFI too. No complaints here. But we always do have our Iphone HotSpots for back-up.
  • many parks just have 1 antenna located by the office thus if you aren't close you don't get a decent signal. larger parks have numerous antennas located thru out the park or at least should.
