As I was leaving a campground last week a TT came in next to me that had a license plate like this on it.

They possible could. When I was in the Army stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA (Just south of Washington DC, near Mt. Vernon), they had a couple pop-ups you could rent out at the AAFES exchange. We actually did this a couple times. That was 30 years ago, so yes, I would think the Air Force would do the same thing. AAFES stands for Army Air Force Exchange Service. It was the service that provided amenities to service members, like on-post craft shops, swimming pool, basket ball courts, stuff like that.

Military MWR (Morale Welfare and Recreation) departments and activities are almost completely NAF.NAF = Non-Appropriated FundsNone of the money comes from Congressional appropriations - i.e. Tax Dollars.The money comes from profits from the base exchanges and the operations of MWR facilities like a base bowling alley, RV park, golf course, etc.Most bases have a Outdoor Recreation division where military people can check/rent recreational equipment - backpacks, tents, canoes, fishing equipment, many other things that it would be impractical to purchase/ store on a military base. The idea being that folks living in a barracks can't keep such items in their living spaces. (Usually they also rent lawn mowers, string trimmers, hedge clippers - it's outdoor, but I wouldn't call it recreation.)The first time I used Outdoor Rec was in June 1972 to rent a sleeping bag and a tent. A friend and I hitchhiked from San Diego to Riverside to watch the NASCAR race - pitching the tent in the infield.Some bases are large enough, and have enough business, to purchase small trailers and rent those. Usually they stay with single axle size because they can be pulled by SUVs and smaller pickups. Few military people will have a HD pickup if they don't have their own trailer.Over the past 18 months I've seen rental trailers at/ from - Laughlin AFB, Del Rio, TX; Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX; Naval Station, Mayport, FL; Charleston AFB, SC; Navy, Army and AF trailers from the Norfolk Area; USMA West Point, NY; Hanscom AFB, MA; Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH & NSA Millington, Memphis, TN.I've sure there are many more bases that rent trailers.

Dahlgren Naval Base here has three or four trailers on the road for their MWR members...GOVT retires including DOD Civil Service all can use the MWR facilities after they retire... Roy Ken

Military Special Services also have rentals in Hawaii Condo's and a hunting Lodge in Alaska. Now don't whine about these possible perks. Those GI's bet their lives for the job and do not get paid much. They deserve break places with some comforts.

Yes. And boats, golf carts, fishing gear, service bays in the auto shop, tools in wood shop, campsites at recreational facilities and so on. Army, Navy and Marines too. All part of recreational services programs supported by non-appropriated funds, i.e. Exchange Service profits. No tax dollars involved.

Since you asked, they probably won't rent to you. If you were eligible, you would have known, not needed to ask.

We had Navy personnel that came to our campground this winter that had rented the rv, boat, trailer and canoes on base. The rent was very reasonable. They rented a site for the weekend then whomever had time off came and went, sat by the fire with us - went fishing etc to enjoy their off duty time. First we had ever realized they do this.

I know that Andrews AFB has them. I know a few people that have rented them. Small single axle, but hey,,, they get to go camping and have fun... I retired from the Navy and Andrews was my last tour. Great base.

I have seen them around Joint Base Lewis McChord in Washington. Also the Navy has duplexes in Pacific Beach Washington available for rent.

Have for a long time rented a pop up from the Navy for my first RV trip back in 1968 in Virginia

Tow vehicle was a 1967 Camaro SS396 convertible

The US Air Force Academy rents RVs to cadets and other personnel stationed there.

I know the Navy does and probably the other services too. I worked at Rec Svcs after retirement and took care of over 350 pcs of equipment
including RV's, fishing packages, utility trailers, mowers etc. Plus tents etc. You need to be retired or active duty.

Yup.. as others point out, many bases do rent travel trailers. Here at Robins AFB, there are three or four that they rent out, and have done so for years.

If you get them while they are new(ish), it's nice. As they get old and beat up... not so nice. Good thing is, most bases replace their equipment at a fairly decent interval.
