Dometic Americana refrigerator

I saw an ad for a Dometic compressor type rv refrigerator. It says 120volt 12volt dual voltage. I am left to wonder how long it would run on 12volt before running a battery down. An is this for people who like to boon dock.....A google search doesn't give much information.....

It looks like that catalog is directed at the Australian market and doesn't include the new Americana DMC models which are intended as an alternative to the current 6 and 8 cu. ft. absorption models currently in many of today's RVs.

Other posters seem correct that there is little info available at this time. Even Camping World, who advertised it in the Sept 2016 Trailer Life magazine, has no info (that I could find at this time) on their own website.

For the smaller units, they publish power consumption. The largest of them, the 136 liter version (about 4.8 cubic feet), lists "average power consumption" of approximately 65 watts (which would mean about 5.5 amps at 12V DC), and power consumption of 2.3 Ah/h or 2.6 Ah/h depending on the ambient temperature. Unfortunately they don't say if the 2.3 or 2.6 Ah are at 12V or 24V, but 24V would be more in keeping with the average power consumption figure.

At any rate, it appears to me that you could plan on about 8 hours of operation per battery as a rough rule of thumb for that unit without being too nasty to the battery.

A single battery? Maybe 2-3 hours, depending on ambient.
  • Usually the 12v setting is for Coaches, as trailers can't get enough amps to run a fridge through the umbilical. I assume running even a 12v compressor fridge wouldn't last too long on batteries without a really solid solar system.
