Dometic RM 2662 fridge issue

Hello!

Finally rolling to Baja after years of dreaming.

Left BC Canada a few days ago.

By Sacremento all my food was spoiled !

Tried thermistor position with no luck.

Resolved to using the fridge as a cooler with bags of ice .

Then this morning I open the freezer and cold smoke is rolling out

Noticed the boiler has always been hot throughout the trip but the rest of the cooling unit pipes are now hot , so clearly the ammonia is completing the route through the unit now that it’s cooling.

Do I need a new thermistor? I’m gonna test the ohms today

Maybe it’s the control board or bad wiring connections.

Any ideas?

It’s 14 years old.

I could just buy a new one ($2000) and proceed on the dream trip worry free.

What would you do?
  • Gret a new one assuming you can find one and can get it installed (or install it yourself).
  • Check for 12 volts DC to circuit board.
    Make and model of rig?
Is your coach batteries turned on?
  • Its two years ago I also got the chance to use the frig as an ice chest. Not fun although it does hold the ice somewhat.

Although mine is a Norcold that was 13 years at that time. I did alot of looking at the options I had. I do not boondock always plugged in so need for propane was not neccessary.

I did not want to go the residential route as my carpentry skills were not goo enought plus it was hard to find a unit that would fit.

Getting a new norcold would require removing the front windshield
(thats what I was told) I most definitely did not want to do that.

So I looked at replacing the whole cooling unit. Save time and money all the way around. I ended up getting a totlly 120v cooling unit from JC Refrigeration

Very easy to replace new with old, great customer service all the good stuff. Can not be happier with the cooling capability of the unit. To me was a great choice.

If you do not fix your frig. I will not make for a happy trip. Mine boke down halfway into our month long trip. Many bags of ice.

    Good Luck
  • replacement cooling unit would be cheaper then new can get replacement in 120volt/propane combo, 12volt compressor, or 120volt compressor. Not that hard to change the cooling unit I've done 3 so far by myself.
  • Are both the vents in the side wall? I had one of those little 6 cf fridges and it was the pits even though it was checked several times and I was told thatwas all it could do. You could try a fan in the back but it might be shot if it cooled before and this is a new problem. Craig
