Donating RV...

Price it at $2500 and it will move fast. Much better than a donation.

I appreciate all the responses. Believe me, we've tried to sell it on Craigslist, below Nada Guide price several times. We've had lots of interest, but every time we've setup appointments to come see it, interest stops. We've had people from all over Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina that were supposedly interested. I've jumped through all kinds of hopes getting pictures of this and pictures of that. One guy wanted to know how much rust was on it. I took pictures of every exposed part of the trailer to show the little surface rust on the coupler and the jack. It was too much rust for him!?

I'm done with the dealing with trying to sell it. For the $3-$4k we'd like to get for it, it is not worth the hassle. I like the local VFW idea, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the idea Francesca.

since you wanted 3-4,000 I would assume you have it advertised for $5,500 or so? a free ad on Craigs list for 2,000-2,500 and I bet it would sell quickly.

Hi All.

I donated and older Chevy Station Wagon some years ago. Boy, what a mess that turned out to be. It went to a good charity too. They gave it to a Collage Student. They never removed my name or changed the Titile.

After about a week or two, all the parking tickets starting arriving at our house. I called that Police Department, and even Faxed a copy of the "Donation Papers". They flat out told me that they didn't care, and that I was still respondsable as it was still in my name. They told me to pay the tickets or a Bench Warrnt would be sent out on me. I called the company I gave the car to, they told me once they give the car to someone else, it was up to them to change the registration and Title.

To make a long story shoter, call and really check out the company real good who you give a Donation car or truck or RV to, as it just might come back and bite you in the Butt. my Attorney, took care of everything, that same day, I called him. Like what was said before above, be careful who you give it to, as not all Donation Companies are as good as some other are.

Dan,I don't know about where you are but in Ohio If you donated it to someone and then they disposed of it to someone else and your name was still on the title then they "Jumped Titles" which is illegal in our state. glad all worked out for you.

The days where *you* were able to place the value of a charitable donation of a vehicle are long gone.

Tax deduction for donation of vehicles is limited to $500. by the IRS - *unless* it is appraised for more by a *licensed* appraiser.

It sits on their lot and they deal with the sale.

Don't see how that happened in the state of California if that is where the vehicle was registered?

In California there is a form and/or actually the bottom of the title that 'you' are required by law to fill out and send to the DMV.

This validates that on such and such date you sold the vehicle and are no longer responsible for it AND notifying the DMV 'who' is. I just wish all states had that requirement.
