My FIL had the same do it now and never wait attitude. He made a lot of money and spent it as fast as he made it so he could do his bucket list while young. And he did. Fast cars, tons of guns and toys. He did a lot of cool stuff and did a lot of cool things in his life.
He is 70 now and all of the cars and guns and toys are gone. He lives in assisted housing because he can't afford to pay rent and live. He lives on something like $800 a month. He can't really make ends meet because he has no money. Sad really. I don't think he thinks it was a great idea now. Maybe he does, I don't know?"
With respect. Maybe he IS HAPPY with the way he lived his life. Did you ever have a conversation about it? I would be interested in his views, because I did basically the same thing, (Spent the money fast and hard) but saved some money for retirement.
You very well could be correct DF. I'm not discounting that fact at all. I won't bring it up because it's not something to do IMHO.
Much like the grasshopper and the ant. The grasshopper was very content until winter came.
On another note. A friend just went to a memorial. I told him that I did not realize that our friend was dead. He said he wasn't. He found out he had cancer and wanted to celebrate with all his friends while he was alive and could do it. Now that is a plan I could get into!
Thanks for the reply.
Interesting.
Just proves and reinforces that fact that you need in life what pleases YOU. Not what others expect of you.
