In October 2009 at 47 years old I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. My life became all about fighting to win. We didn't camp the next summer, still recovering from the financial set back of paying for cancer treatment.
Ten months after completing surgery, chemo, and 33 radiation treatments I was diagnosed stage IV. Poof. Just like that my focus changed, no longer fighting to win, just fighting for more time. My breast cancer had spread into my bones. I had 15 radiation trestments to my spine. And, like any normal person with a compromised spine, I started barrel racing!! LOL My oncologists advice? "Don't fall off"! Since then my old horse and I have won a couple buckles in speed events, we even won 1st place in Ranch Horse Reining!
Last year I went white water rafting and ziplining, and I'm going again this summer. Hubby and I upgraded from a 28' fifth wheel with one slide to a 33' fifth wheel with three. We plan on several weekend trips to a small local lake, just to get away and enjoy our camper. I have to work around my full time job and weekly chemo, so we can't get too far away. My cancer has continued to spread, now in my liver too.
Bucket lists? I don't have time for bucket lists!
