Don't just run to the RV dealership....

I went to the local Dodge dealer today for an oil change and NYS inspection. It only took 5-6 hours for the quick service lane. Fortunately I knew this would happen so I waited at home. I was told scheduled service now has a 6-8 week delay. Fortunately I do not need anything else so I don't need to wait until the end of July. A few months ago we needed the inspection and oil change for the Honda CRV. Honda does not have a quick service lane and wanted to schedule 3-4 weeks in advance.

Everyone is happy about low unemployment. Delays due to a shortage of workers are becoming more common.

I had my first oil change done at CW $99.00 and they used the wrong oil
2nd at an Authorized Workhorse Chevy Dealer 65.bucks and the right oil
Now at an independent dealer (more service than sales) also proper oil and 65 dollars.

That is what I am paying for the service at my independent truck repair shop. It includes a Ford filter and Shell T4 oil and all fluids are checked. They do the job while we eat breakfast next door. I quit doing it myself when they began offering this 2 years ago and I don't miss the job one bit.

at 82 I still do all my own oil changes,on everything......

I do my own oil change on the RV. Local Ford dealer does service medium duty trucks, oil change, lube and "free inspection" is about $30 for the C, and I can buy the oil and parts for less, drag my grease gun under the RV, and do the job for less.

For my E-350 van, the story is different. Quicklane price for oil change and new Motorcraft filter is $9.95. Best price I can get for five quarts of the oil Ford uses is about $19, and the filter is another $3-5, so I'll let the dealer have this job, while I go into the salesroom and harass some poor salesman who thinks he is going to sell me a new car.

No dealership service for me. Dropped off my almost new truck at the dealer where I had purchased it for oil change and service. Picked it up later that day,the service manager said it was ready to go, paid them and drove home. At home I thought I would check to make sure oil level was ok. The oil was full but looked black as before, looked at the drain plug and filter, still dirty and muddy from off road use the week before. Grease zerks dirty also. The truck had not even been touched. They did it right when I went back as I watched.
Last year my daughter drove up at our house. She said my oil light came on just as I stopped the car. I checked the oil level, empty, she said just came from the dealer for service 10 minutes ago. Looked under the car NO oil drain plug. Oil streak down the drive and up the street about for 200 yards. Where the oil stopped lay the drain plug in the street. I know there are dependable techs out there for sure, its just hard to weed out the bad ones. It is a lot of work to do all my service and brake work my self but I get a lot of peace of mind knowing its done right when the safety of my family is at risk.

I get 6 * 8 quart full synthetic change with filter for just over $400, to me the delta between the cost of oil and filters (~$330) and that cost just isn't worth it to do myself. While it's in it also gets looked at by a trained mechanic, haven't had them flag anything since it's a 2015 with just over 30k miles but it's nice knowing another set of eyes is looking at it. I won't necessarily have them do the work as I have two shops I trust well on the mechanical side but if they bring anything up I'll know to take it to a shop for a second opinion.

Amen. Oil changes in my company gasser are about $120 avg around here.
Dont even want to know what they'd charge for a diesel.
