Don't take this too serious, I'm just wondering...

OK, I took the plunge yesterday and bought myself a really fantastic and sweet John Deere riding lawn mower. You know, one of those big ones with the twin engines that's liquid cooled, hydrostate transmission, all hydraulic, big enough to install a snow blower, attach rototillers, and even a small bush-hog (mower) on the back. And I paid a fortune for it (they ain't cheep).

Anyway, I got to thinking. If I traded my (new) Outback for a Toy Hauler and brought my John Deere with me camping (instead of a golf cart), do you think anyone would think I'm weird? The engine DOES run real quiet, and as long as you don't turn the mower on, it's actually quieter than many motorcycles I've heard?

    We live in a remote area and I have a Snapper Grounds Cruiser that I have driven up to five miles away from home. It only gets up to 19 mph (maybe 10 going up hill)and I have to carry an umbrella in case of rain. Gas milege is excellent however, and I only have 1/2 mile of a paved road to watch out for, then I am good to go. Of course this is south of the Mason-Dixon. lizzie

    I used to work in a small rural community where that was an accepted form of transportation around town for some. They were generally referred to as "eccentric" or "colorful characters". Of course, they weren't riding John Deeres, but I think you catch my drift. :) Expect a lot of people to ask you where the bathroom is, which trail leads to the lake, etc.

    I should have explained that a Snapper Grounds Cruiser isn't really a lawn mower. It is more like a "mule", but looks kind of like a little jeep. Mine is not 4x4 but I can lock the differential and climb up almost anything. Unfortunately it is not the only thing about me that is "colorful". lizie

    hey I saw an older man riding a large tricycle with a 3 horse briggs and Stratton engine powering it, was really a cool homebuilt set of wheels

    I know a man who does it.. So the campground security told him he could not.. So he complained that folks have golf cars, what's the difference.. They figured they had him. "Well just bring in the proof of insurance" (I mean who has insurance (liability) on a lawn mower right?)

    So the next day he brought in is Liability insurance on the mowers.. (The answer is a professional lawn care company.. Yup, that's what he does).

    You guys and your riding mowers. When my sister was briefly widowed (she's on her 4th now), all the guys she knew volunteered to come over and mow her five acres. Didn't volunteer to help with anything else around the place, but her lawn was always mowed.

    Boy, youse guys win one little war and us creative, thoughtful folk are always the brunt of the joke! Here in my little burg riding your mower on the street is unsafe. The big tractors can't see you as they drive the city streets to the gas station!
