I also wore out a hitch head after almost eight years towing an 11K lb toy hauler. It did not crack like yours, but it did oval out and would not retain the spring bars over oscillating pavement. At first I thought it was user error since it would only happen once every third trip, but the frequency of release increased as the wear continued.
I kept the head and use it when I tow larger trailers without WDH since they are at a different tongue height than my new cargo trailer.
