I lived in the RV as a full timer and have traveled in almost every State and Province. I have always filled my tank with available water at campgrounds, rest stops, etc. I filter drinking water through the Brita but that is largely just to remove odors and tastes that are different. The coffee water comes directly from the tank.
I am careful to properly sanitize my tank. I use the recommended 1/4 cup of bleach for every 15 gallons. If the RV is not used for more than a few weeks, I sanitize again.
Some people insist on drinking bottled water even when high quality water is available from municipal sources. Few want to consider that the chemicals leaching from the plastic containers might not be safe. Studies have also shown that a high percentage of bottled water is merely tap water with or without additional treatment or filtration. Additional treatment or filtration may not be such a great idea. Tap water typically contains chlorine to help reduce bacterial growth.
