Been a lot longer then that for us, using campground water. Things changed a bit for us about 5 years ago. We stay for six weeks at a small RV park in Montana every year, one day an ambulance showed up to the RV next to us, and hauled the guy off.
Turned out that he had drank some water at a small restaurant up the road, that also was a small RV park. Their septic tank had leaked into their well water contaminating it, it was contained ,and corrected pretty fast ,but it did happen . The guy was back the next day, but he was pretty sick for awhile from the E. coli .
