Kalait, If your Xterra's front drive shaft does not turn when you are in 2WD, the driveshaft disconnect should work for you. Just put a mark on your front drive shaft and see if it's in the same position after driving the car in 2WD. You have to be certain that neither the front or rear driveshaft will be causing the transfer case to spin. I have a driveshaft disconnect on my 2000 4Runner and I'm quite happy with it. I don't use the shifter assembly because it hangs off the bottom of the rear differential and that's not very compatible with terrain that requires 4WD. I just lay down next to the car and reach under to engage or disengage the disconnect. Like the previous poster that you quoted said, you need to find a driveshaft shop that has experience with the Remco disconnect. What state do you live in?
