We have been coast to coast 3 times. The first 2 were towing a trailer, the third was with our current rig, a class C towing a Subaru.
I liked the third best, using the MH for traveling and the car for touring. 30 mpg vs 9 mpg is one advantage. Also the ease of driving and parking a car is nice.
Another thing, having 2 drive-able vehicles gives you a pretty good "lifeboat" if anything should go wrong on some of the roads we were on. Nothing did.
