I spent a few months in England in '76 and most of the intersections were roundabouts.
When I was issued a company automobile, one of the blokes who worked in the office asked the other "Should we tell him about the roundabouts?" The other answered, "Let him find out for himself."
It turned out, my hotel was about a mile down the road from "The Magic Roundabout"
A giant bi-directional roundabout with six mini-roundabouts inside. At that time it was the only one of its kind and very few people knew how to use it. Not knowing any better, I just jumped in "feet first" and in a couple of days I could navigate "Magic" better than most of the natives.

Quite a few intersections in Lake County IL and Kenosha County WI are being replaced with roundabouts and traffic moves very smoothly through them.
