There are plans in the works for a roundabout on US 31 about 10 miles south of Columbus IN where it is intersected by a rather busy county road. The planners (in their infinite wisdowm) failed to plan for the width of the numerous farm machines that pass in this rural area! Imagine... tractors and combines in southern Indiana! LOL
Well, newest plans provide at least 150 foot entry lanes with rumble strips, the double lanes within the roundabout have been changed to a single lane, and the center will have the drive-over curbing for the longer vehicles.
Before the traffic signal was installed a few years ago, this was a dangerous intersection, mostly due to tired factory workers who were in a hurry to get home taking chances with traffic on the main highway. But after the light was installed, the accidents were dramatically reduced, but "someone" had already earmarked the intersection as being ideal for a roundabout.
I go thru this area daily, and dread the congestion and confusion this is going to cause.
