Dry ice and Dometic fridge

We will be heading out for a long weekend next Thursday. I have access to dry ice and am wondering if I can us it to precool my fridge. My concern is blowing the door open from the off gassing of the dry ice. I hear a sucking sound when I close the door and assume it is creating a vacuum in the fridge. How air tight are the fridges? I say this as I entertain my kids by blowing up pop bottles with dry ice and do not want to harm my fridge. Thanks for your input.

  • And why not just turn on the fridge the day before you leave on gas or electric?
  • We precool our fridge with gallon and half gallon jugs of frozen water. I stop at the trailer, turn on the fridge and put in the jugs. Go to the store for the food, pick up honey and the dogs, by then the jugs have the interior cool and we pack the food in around them. the fridge acts like a cooler until it gets caught up.
  • I'd be more concerned with damage to the inside of your fridge, the glass, plastic, etc.

I put dry ice in my house sink once and it broke the pipes in the drain. :(
