As we were leaving Silver Strand State Beach just south of Coronado (San Diego), we stopped at the dump station for a quick tank drop. I noticed a younger guy watching my every move. I smiled and waved him over and he explained that he'd just bought an older Class C and had no idea how to use the dump station.
Spent a few minutes taking him through the basics and showing him a couple of tricks to keep it simple. Recommended a Rhino hose and explained the difference between the hose you flush with and the one with which you fill your fresh tank. In 5 minutes he had more than enough real world knowledge to cleanly (and safely), use the dump station all because he was willing to simply ask a total stranger for help.
Being nice, patient and not condescending flattened the learning curve and I made a new friend. Hope to see him again down the road. IMHO: Not many things in RV'n that are simpler than the proper use of a dump station but nobody is born with that knowledge any more than they are born with the ability to back a trailer. To the new folks out there observe and don't be embarrassed to ask. To those who are asked, be nice and share your knowledge/experience and we all win. :C
