dumping fresh water question

I was wondering if there was a proper way to dump the fresh water left in the tank before leaving a campsite. I usually drain on site, but the father in law says not to do that. And he usually takes what is left home and dumps it. So question is what do you guys do with your fresh water when the stay is over?

  • I opened the water valve just before leaving Nevada Beach Camp ground in Nevada
near South Shore and came to a traffic light and low and behold a Highway Patrolman was behind me. Yep he lit me up. He asked WHAT do you have draining on our roads ? I told him it was just extra water from our fresh water tank. He said "THAT IS AGAINST THE LAW IN NEVADA" He saw that I had Cal plates on my TT so he asked "Do you drain your water like that in Cal?" I told him that I did at times. He told me "Don't let me catch you doing that here in Nevada again"
He followed me to the Calif line. So I make sure that I do not drain the water in Nevada but as soon as I can I open the valve in Calif
  • I dump it at home. That way I have water to flush the toilet or wash hands in the event someone has to use the head. The same when were headed to the campground, I carry about 20 or so gallons for the same reason.

Or just open it as the last thing out of the campsite, after the dump station. Won't hurt the hiway a bit and gives other drivers something to talk about.:B

    Excellent idea....
    That is what I do.

  • Since the drail on my fresh tank is so small it take hours to dump it. I usually just dump at home.
  • You need to figure that out.

Are we on a concrete pad surrounded by droughty grass...draining the fresh water would probably be a good thing to do.

Are we on a grass site with already moist soil where you are going to generate a muddy spot that camper/TV tires are going to run through? Probably not a good idea.

Will it run down the road, or (here comes the grass again) soak in nicely.

    OR

Do you need it to fill up the black tank to get that good 2/3 full flush out?
