Dumping Gray Water In Your Campsite

Ya know how much RAW SEWAGE the federal government lets my town dump untreated into the little inland Lake each year (A lake that feeds three rivers by the way)? Several MILLION GALLONS ... it's called combined sewage overflow. It's discouraged but not punished. The town doesn't have a treatment plant, just a few small settling tanks, which get pumped out now and then and hauled to a landfill. When the tanks are full, out to the lake it goes!

Why complain about a little sink water getting dumped on the grass when countless thousands of governments are doing far worse nation wide?

Hmmm sounds like a lake I would not be inclined to swim in fish or drink from. This NP has over 400 sites if 200 of them were rv's dumping 40 to 100 gallon tanks it would not be a little problem but a big problem.

I'll admit that I was astonished last weekend - we were camping at a Michigan State Park, we had just eaten dinner and I was looking for a place to wash dishes. I asked the campground host, who laughed and said "wash them at your site!"

This was our first campout without holding tanks; plus we had 3 other families in tents or a popup trailer. I was stunned, thinking of how much "gunk" would get dumped on our sites just in a long weekend; and this park had LOTS of tenters. We dumped the dishpans into the "woodsy" part of the sites; but by the second day, bees and flies were gathering there.....

We don't let grease get into our gray tank. We wash vegetables and wash dishes, which might have traces of grease but everything is attempted to be put into containers and in the garbage. Almost all our gray water is soap, body wash, shampoo, detergent and water softener and a little bleach.
I wouldn't mind a bit helping to water some campgrounds vegetation, like we did in Big Bend area with it though it takes a bit of doing. Could have used the sewer hose and modulated the gray tank valve, I suppose.
We have come across where people dumped their gray tank, hopefully that was all, in our reserved spot and nearby and it stunk to high heaven.
So we use the sewer system like it was designed for, and the gray water tank flush of the hose and fill and rinse again leaves the hose spotless and smelling pretty and no chance of dandruff developing.

Don't know what you put down your sink or shower with but you are wrong about my grey water, heck it sometimes smells good, can smell the shampoo...... Not about lazy but about full and no other option. I did pay $40.00 to dump my black tank at a music festival but sorry not paying to dump gray water.

Sounds like you dumped your black and thought it was grey!

I've lived in lower MI my whole life. There is a spillway in the Clinton Twp area that with heavy rains gets sewage entering Lake St Clair. it's been doing this since I was a child. Just about every year till this day beaches in the area are closed at times because bacteria and sewage polluting the area. So it's a issue.

And you would be wrong assuming that. As many others have noted here ... It stinks. Like I said before there is always a option. Then that would leave lazy or cheap or don't care. Unless the campground doesn't have a main dump facility you have multiple options. That still leaves the three comments viable.

Lol......some here need to reread the original post......or have someone read / explain it. A RV dumping dirty grey water on a specific site.....that probably will be occupied the next day, or soon after they leave.

Not a pot or two.....RV holding tanks......on a RV site......

Relax Spooner.......the ocean is safe......go outside and get some fresh air and exercise, you'll be fine......lol!

Anyway.......rules are for other people right?

Not always an option to have it drained and if I want a shower grey on the ground it is so I can get that shower. I paid the man to dump my black when it was an option and he spilled a good bit on the ground and all I did was soak it with water and smell gone in a few minutes, that was black water.

99% of the time I have full hook ups so this is not an issue very often.
