ease towing a TT.

I just got to say. Those of you that have trouble towing a TT, You know sway and stuff. There is no possible way you have your TT setup right. You may wonder what makes me think that. We were talking about it at the Cg last Wed. They were fussin about how their TT moved around. I told them then. It wasn't the TTs fault, It was their setup. I don't understand why folks can't get it right.

As we have discussed for the past few days. I had a really bad trip home the other day. I blew 2 TT tires. And EVEN running on 3 tires I had -O- / ZERO sway. In fact the only thing I noticed on 3 tires. The TV worked harder. I thought the wind was blowing into the nose hard. It didn't wiggle, or move around, and I would have not known but for the people that told me about it.
The only time my TT moved around on me was when I drove thru the sever storm with 50 MPH cross winds that knocked down power lines, and trees in Charlotte. It doesn't move when trucks pass, even with out the sway bar on.

So I can only say. Take your time setting up your hitch, and balancing your TT. Get it right, and you too will have sway free towing. A TT should not sway at any speed, and a properly setup one won't.

And before you say. I have a small TT and big truck. I do not. I have a 30' TT, and a 145" WB F150, and it don't sway a lick.

  • I would actually agree with you on a good WD hitch and sway control tows just as good as a 5th wheel.
  • We had a very heavy Work & Play TT before our Vengeance now. When I switched trucks, I had to redo the Equalizer because the new truck height was not the same. I studied the videos and worked on it several times for a few hours until it was "right". I had to go 8 washers (the max) on the hitch head but when all was said and done, the truck sat perfectly and the sway control was amazing.

I know some will argue with me but a properly set up TT with a good WD hitch and sway control tows just as well as 5th wheel. In some circumstances, it does even better.

Does your Ford have the anti trailer sway feature?

It's possible, but the last truck did not, and it didn't sway either, with or with out a flat TT tire. Yes it had one too. In truth the sway control on the truck doesn't do anything until the TT is WAAAY out of line. It NEVER got out of line.
  • I think a lot of people with bad setups are mis-diagnosing the issue as sway. When in fact the trailer may be fine and the TV is all over the place.
