we spend about 3 months a year using the trailer. We do eat out. But here is our routine. When we are going through new localities, especially smaller towns, we often stop and ask locals about good places to eat. Stop in have a lunch or dinner, support local business and very very often have some outstanding meals. Seafood on the coast, etc. We've had meals that would match big city 5 star resurants in some small towns, with great service, AND learn about other things to see and do nearby. On occasion we've used these out of the way eatary parking lots for overnight camping after the meal and getting the ok.
We stay away from restaurants in bigger city places with chains. It's the local places that can be very worthwhile.
Most of the time we cook in the trailer, but as mentioned, take an opportunity to try local places.
When we cook at the campsite, tin foil dinners, pie iron lunches, pie iron deserts, BBQ, you name it. I think we eat better on the road than at home. Something relaxing about making a dinner around campfire using our "Maytag" firepit/grill (washing machine drum)
