Electric lift on pop up

I had a similar problem with the superslide on our Rockwood trailer. It would go in about 1/3 of the way and then stop. After a few minutes it would more some more and then stop again. You had to repeat this a few more times to get the slide in or out.

It turned out to be a bad self-resetting circuit breaker that was between the battery and the slide switch. Once I replaced the breaker all was fine.

One more point. The manual override for the powerwinch is under a round plug on top of the mechanism cover. I will warn you, it takes ALOT of turns to raise/lower the roof so it is not practical to use regularly unless you have a drill. I have also heard the bolt head has a tendency to break so should not be relied upon to use regularly

If it turns out not to be battery / electrical connection go to the manual crank. Just my two cents

I had a 2005 2280. The powerwinch on that model is out of production and no parts available. I believe there is a new model about $400 but there are complaints of how loud that motor is. When my motor went out, since I could not find a replacement I decided to go to a manual crank. It is more work than a switch but still not bad to crank up.

As another poster indicated goshen stamping is the manufacturer of the lift system. They are great to work with. I believe a new manual crank and replacement cable was about $130. It is a somewhat dirty job to replace but you do not have to be a rocket scientist. The link below is the parts list to the system I suspect you have

While you are under there, use a grease gun to grease the zerk fittings. If it hasn't been serviced, it may take a lot of grease.

At about that age our 1992 Coleman with only a manual crank got hard to crank up. I took it apart and found some worn out bearings, lack of grease on the bearings in the crank gearbox. It took quite a few hours but nothing requiring special skill or knowledge. After that maintenance it worked well. Our daughter and son in law took it for a 2000 km trip this summer.

In my view, if the motor was on the way out (lifting the roof slowly or not at all, I think you would smell it dying or it would smoke like most all DC motors do just before they expire.

Candidly, I don't know didily squat about your unit but I too have an electric lift on my unit (see signature) and I do know that on your unit and mine, the motor is not direct coupled to the lift mechanism but runs through a gear train that reduces the motor rpm and increases the lift power.

Having said that, I would inspect the gearbox / gear train and see if there is sufficient lube in the gear case or on the gears (grease).

Your unit is a 2005 which means it's not a new unit and I bet the origonal owner never serviced (greased) the gears or gearbox. A 2005 pop up trailer is considered ancient today.

You can get chassis grease in tubes (grease gun) or in plastic tubs at any auto store. Might be grease time.

Just a thought.

Conversely, if it's a hydraulic lift, all that may be the issue is, it's low on fluid and AW hydraulic fluid is nothing more than motor oil with an anti foaming additive, again available at any auto parts store as well as Tractor Supply in quarts, gallons and 5 gallon pails.

I suspect, lack of lubrication and age is your issues.

I'lljust have to get out there and look. RV guy said he didn't see one. I'd really like to get the electric lift fixed but evidently the RV guy is having trouble finding a motor for it. any suggestions on that? thanks
