Of course it all depends on your needs. And I’m talking about the on topic needs of someone with an RV. Not a commuter. Not someone going to get groceries. I’m talking about someone making a trip across the country towing A fifth wheel. A truck camper. A class C. A class a.. Any of these.
There is no way an electric vehicle would work for any of that.
Don’t get me wrong. If I had a house and was just going around grocery shopping, dropping off kids, going to a job. I would have solar panels on my roof and I would charge my electric car from that. Without a doubt.
But I am concerned that there will be some regulation coming soon that will require all vehicles sold to be electric. Or zero omission. What does that do for RVs? If you look in Europe, there are plenty of places RVs simply are not allowed because they are zero emission areas. This concept could come here very easily. Especially with all the hype about electric cars.
Being an avid RVer and Diesel pusher driver I get your concern. I doubt you have much to worry about as I doubt there would be any legislation for 20 years or so. By then the technology will be well advanced and you won’t care about a gas or diesel vehicle...if you can find a manufacturer that sells them. Any manufacturer that doesn’t go full tilt into EV technology will have an ever decreasing market size as provinces states and whole countries tighten emmision laws. Voters are demanding it in more and more places. But an all out ban is a couple decades away. And if it’s anything like the laws that are currently being passed it only affects new vehicles. People will be allowed to run their old vehicles to normal lifespan. Cities may have stricter rules though. Both from the emmision and noise point of view. Cities with current EV only zones are very quiet.
