Exactly. All depends on your needs. EV’s suit our needs much better and are more convenient. If your needs are better suited by a gasser that’s what you should buy. For our needs an EV is much more advantageous.
Bottom line, buy what you can afford and what suits your needs.
i wasn’t clear. what advantages, conveniences and features?
Advantages for us? A lot of it we just take for granted now. Here’s a few in no particular order that apply to us. I’m sure there are some I have missed.
- No wasted time at gas stations. Fuel at night while sleeping.
- No grabbing a gas pump handle after somebody else just scratched their (fill in the blank).
- Drive and forget no maintenance driving. (Well, washer fluid, wiper blades, brake fluid once in a while). No oil, filters, hoses, belts, plugs and brakes don’t get used much so very little wear.
- Very quiet ride. Model dependant though. We found bolt was a little louder.
- This one probably doesn’t apply to many if they don’t live in a winter climate. We have a single car garage so one of us use to always join the morning crowd of going outside, scraping windows, warming up the vehicle for 10 or 15 minutes. Now it’s just a click on a phone app and the car is toasty warm and windows are clear. Electtic cars heat up VERY FAST and no idling to do it. Same in summer. Pre cool from the phone. 5 minutes before you leave the mall hit pre-cool and things are nice and cool when you get there...again with no idling. We appreciate our EV’s more in the winter than any other season.
- Super quick with lots of quiet power.
- Our garage smells like any other part of the house. We always had a car smell with the Grand Cherokee and usually a few oil drips from somewhere.
- Our garage is unheated so can get cool. Pre warming in the garage presents no problems with fumes etc.
- Low centre of gravity makes it handle like a cat on carpet.
- fuel (electricity) is cheap but this depends where you live of course.
- We are not on a tight budget so this is relative but cost of driving is a fraction of the Grand Cherokee.
- We can drive in the HOV lanes although that’s only when we visit a neighbouring city which is 80 km away which is only a couple times a month.
-Tourist season is Brutal here and traffic tie ups are common. In summer temps the Grand Cherokee used to get REALLY HOT sitting in traffic with the AC on. EV’s are good in this type of situation. I’m sure not all gassers have that problem.
Half of the above are probably not important to some people but for us it’s made EV driving a big plus. I have nothing against gassers, they just don’t check the boxes like an EV does for us.
Buy what you can afford and buy what works for your needs.
