Electric waste valve

We replaced our 3" cable pulled black tank waste valve approximately 6 weeks ago. The very best money ever spent!! Hit the switch, it opens correctly and then flush. DONE.
I am now wanting to put one on our gray tank, however, I am having trouble finding an electric valve for a 1.5 inch pipe. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help.

  • The only time I've seen them really used for anything was when I was looking for a TT a few years ago (before I bought my first rig.) The seller of one TT I looked at had these type of valves rigged so he could open/close the gate valves from his pickup. That way, he could find a back road, drive 10-20mph, let the black tank empty, then get back on the highway.

He did get his just desserts -- he cracked the black tank open in front of a Texas DPS officer and got a $3500 fine (and I think jail time, though the TT seller didn't fess up to that.)

    Brother,,you said a mouthful!!

My fiver came with drainmaster dump valves and they have been a constant P.I.T.A from the get-go!I wish I could be more positive about them because when they work there pretty slick but when they don't there junk! All of them have been replaced over three times since new and the B.S I got from the dealer to drainmaster to Cedar Creek was epic, they all blamed each other siting that CC installed them incorrectly by laying them horizontally (in drainmaster's defense there is a diagram label on the valve showing NOT to do this,so much for idiot-proofing) but i'm sure somebody noticed that lil' detail and was told "No Problem" by someone in charge and I doubt that CC would build such a problematic component into their fiver's and they have stopped using drainmaster valves since. the dealer,,oohhh the dealer,,he blames drainmaster for allowing CC to install them improperly but instead of properly re-installing the valves to permanently fix the problem they just slap em' back in the way they were (with a $500+ bill),,way to go guys!!!!So now were down to drainmaster, who also tells me there improperly installed then I'm told their ok horizontally and that the original magnetic switches were to blame and that the new mechanical switches (another $150+ bill) will fix the problem and that the dealer should have both known and done this around the third set of valves and obviously just replaced the valves and left the original switches, again,,WAY TO GO GUY'S!!!!

Ok, so after replacing the switches last winter myself everything has worked up till' a few weeks back when the black tank valve failed and I went bezerk, I called drainmaster again and was told the valve seals were probably installed incorrectly by the dealer (i'm not making this up) and I'll need a re-install kit (another $30+ rupees), I pulled off the under-belly covers and went through the diagnostics to discover the switches fuse that was hidden behind the docking center was blown (had drainmaster thought to mention that I would have saved my money, time and considerable aggravation)but whatever.

So the long and short of this is that unless I want to re-do my entire sewer system and go to the manual valves, NOT! I'm married to my drainmaster electric valves. Would I buy another trailer with them on it, NOT! Would I recommend drainmaster electric valves to anyone ( I would point out that their customer service is quite good but they blew it big-time by charging me for the replacement switches that should have been a recall type situation)ABSOLUTLY NOT!!! Again I wish I could be more positive about them but for such an important component to have that many problems the convenience isn't worth the grief!

    Good luck with yours!!

Yah, what they said! Mine were factory installed and there is no room to operate a manual valve where these are installed so I have to live with it. Many service calls on these. I would never install a set in an RV that already has manual valves. Way too much maint and trouble.

MPI Mallard, I feel your pain. Mine is not mounted correctly either. Also about 90' off of what it should be

My builder no longer exists & the broker I bought it from was not an Alpenlite dealer anyway. Plus he is 4 days drive from where I am.

I have a spare onboard to be prepared.

Talk about being on your own!

Do you have the original switches like the one shown here? Or the new ones like this The new switches have been working properly since last winter(aside a blown fuse)and before yours fail this is a reasonable up-grade(but I still think Drainmaster should be giving them since they STILL sell the original switches with the regular dump valves, I guess that known a "planned obsolescence")they are relativly easy to install as they just plug into the existing harness however they are larger so I had to "Irish-Canadian-engineer" the docking station so they would fit but after a few gin n' juices all was well.

  • Trailer came with the electric system. Hundreds of dump cycles later, only 2 failures. Stuck valve after long storage & a blown fuse. No complaints.
  • I bough an electric valve from Campers world last fall.
It had adaptors for both sizes of pipe.

    Money well spent!

  • Several years ago I replaced gray and black with electric valves. My only complaint was the electric valves closed slow. I learned that the hard way while dumping to my blue tote tank. When the blue tote gets close to full you don't need a slow closing valve. Maybe today's electric valves close quicker.
