Equalizer Brand Hitch - Weight Bars Position Question

Do the weight bars need to be parallel to the trailer frame? I was thinking they are suppose to be parallel. The installer has mine pie sliced shaped but pulled well except for a little popping.

When I had mine I was having trouble with my TT jerking. So I called EQ to ask some questions about setup. The tech guy said I could be slightly out of parallel with bars and it wouldn't matter. Naturally you want the bars to be as close to parallel with the L brackets as that's where part of the friction is at. Obviously you don't want the bars just riding on the front or rear edge of the L bracket.
