Equalizer Brand Hitch - Weight Bars Position Question

Do the weight bars need to be parallel to the trailer frame? I was thinking they are suppose to be parallel. The installer has mine pie sliced shaped but pulled well except for a little popping.

Ditto ah64id. We've been out of parallel for 6 years now and it seems to work fine. Probably not ideal, but it's the best setup we can manage. Trailer has handled well.
