When we were looking for a new toad back in 2010, we had narrowed our choices down to the CRV and the GMC Terrain. Hands down the Terrain had more power, better mpg, was quieter, more comfortable and had a lot more accessories. However, I was very hesitant to get the GMC due to reliability concerns. I had never owned a Honda (Toyota fan, thru and thru), but had heard of the excellent reliability attached to them. I was holding out for the CRV while the DW wanted the Terrain. Well, of course, she won.
Now, after four years of driving and being towed a combined mileage of 60,000 miles, the Terrain has yet to have even one problem. It's difficult for me to admit to her that she was right....gulp....but it has been an absolute perfect toad for us.
Keep in mind that the Equinox and the Terrain are sisters...just different body styles with everything else the same. Our Terrain, while being the top of the line SLT with all options and along with having the 4cyl and 2wd (as opposed to having a 6cyl and AWD), weighs out at almost exactly 4000 lbs. If the Equinox weighs 3800 lbs, I'm not sure where the difference would be, so would have to assume that if an Equinox is dress out like our Terrain, it would also be 4000 lbs.
Good luck in which ever you choose.
