The advice is not to repeat the vigorous method used the first time but to gently displace the remnants of the disintegrated magic marker and then wash them off with soapy water.
This kind of a hazy film was left on the cladding on my car after I waxed it and left wax on the cladding and used a magic eraser to remove the wax. The residue would not wash off but came off with the method I have described.
