Experience With AAA RV Premium Coverage

I just want to relate an experience I had last month with AAA regarding my "RV Premium" coverage.

While on a trip and about 900 miles from home, my 5th-wheel hitch broke and I was stranded on the side of the road. I called AAA and said I needed my 5th-wheel towed to an RV park so I could then see about fixing my hitch. I was told that my issue was not covered because (1) my tow vehicle was not disabled and (2) my trailer could only be towed to my home or to a repair facility.

Rather than argue with the guy on the phone, I had him arrange a tow truck at my expense. The tow truck arrived about 45 minutes later and towed my 5th-wheel 15 miles to a KOA for $146.00.

After I fixed the hitch and was back on the road, I submitted a Request for Reimbursement form to AAA. I made the case that although my truck was technically not disabled in terms of driving it, it was in fact disabled for the intended purpose since the hitch was "disabled".

I also said that regarding #2 above, it made no sense to tow my 5th-wheel 900 miles to my home nor to tow it to a repair facility since it did not need repair.

I am happy to say that two days later I got a call from a AAA supervisor. He apologized for my trouble and said that the claim should NOT have been denied, and he sent me a check for $146.00.

I'm sure there are other AAA stories that didn't turn out so good, but at least in this case, they did the right thing.
  • We got our RV stuck on a dirt road when the earth gave way.

We called AAA, and after several hours and multiple calls, they said that they were sorry but they couldn't help us.

We found a company who sent out a service truck to get us out of the ditch and get us back on the road.

We sent AAA the invoice for the service, and over the past few months we have they've told us three times that they were looking into it. We are still waiting.
